About the place

Construction of the bastion began in 1734, and it is named after Empress Maria Theresa. The National Museum of Banat moved its administration and temporary exhibitions here, because Huniade Castle, its historic home, is being restored until around 2028.

The bastion shows the military history of the Banat, the exhibition 'The World of Yesterday' on the Banat in the 19th and 20th centuries, and other temporary shows. A ticket for one exhibition costs 12 lei, and the full bastion ticket 40 lei.

Good to know

  • The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday; last entry is at 17:30.
  • Get the full ticket if you want to see several exhibitions.
  • Pupils and students get reduced tickets, from 3 lei.
