About the place

The square took the name Union Square in 1919. On the east side stands the Roman Catholic Cathedral (the Dome), and on the west side the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, two large 18th-century churches. In the middle is the Holy Trinity Column, raised after a plague epidemic.

On the south side is the Baroque Palace, home to the Art Museum. The surrounding buildings have cafés with terraces on the ground floor, and in the evening the square is lit and lively.

Good to know

  • Visit the Dome outside service times to see the interior.
  • Check what is on at the Art Museum in the Baroque Palace.
  • Come in the evening, when the facades are lit.
